On December 26, 2014, my husband's goddaughter, Evelyn Grace Spytek, passed away from complications due to a CMV-related surgery. In her memory and in support of the National CMV Foundation, I will be running an 8K on Feb. 24 as part of the 2019 Gasparilla Distance Classic. Your support is important, impactful and tax deductible.
Important: CMV is common, serious and preventable. 40,000 children are born with CMV every year, making CMV the leading viral cause of preventable birth defects.
Impactful: The National CMV Foundation goals are to create awareness, share information about CMV prevention strategies and conduct community outreach initiatives, in addition to empower women to take charge of their health by giving them the tools they need before and during pregnancy.
Tax deductible: Your donation is tax deductible and you will automatically be emailed a receipt once after you donate.
I have been friends with Evelyn's parents, John and Kristen, for more than 15 years and am extremely proud to run for such an important cause in memory of an incredibly special little girl. I am very lucky to have had the opportunity to know and love Evelyn Grace, and her spirit is being carried on through the dedicated work of her parents and the National CMV Foundation.
Please read on to find out about how you can help the National CMV Foundation eliminate this terrible disease.
